Under the dynamic leadership and visionary guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA), a significant step has been undertaken towards advancing rehabilitative justice and fostering meaningful social reintegration. On 07.04.2026, Sh. Jagdeep Singh, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Member Secretary, Haryana State Legal Services Authority launched a One-Month Certificate Course on Culinary Skills & Restaurant Management for inmates of District Jail, Sonepat. This pioneering initiative has been implemented by HALSA in coordination with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sonepat and in collaboration with SRM University Delhi-NCR Sonepat. The programme combines vocational training with modules on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, communication skills and legal awareness, thereby equipping inmates with practical skills and knowledge that would facilitate their reintegration into society after release.
Now, the Culinary Skills and Restaurant Management programmes have been successfully introduced in more than 15 prisons across Haryana, while efforts are underway to commence the programmes in the remaining prisons. These courses are being conducted in collaboration with reputed institutions and universities to ensure quality training and industry-recognised certification. The initiative has significantly enhanced the employability of prison inmates by equipping them with market-relevant skills, thereby improving their prospects for gainful employment and sustainable rehabilitation after their release.
